NASA has re-launched its call to industry (see http://www.unmannedairspace.info/uncategorized/nasa-organizes-briefing-day-for-industry-on-airspace-integration/) to participate at its systems integration and operationalization (SIO) demonstration industry day to be held on November 30, 2017 at the Kimpton Hotel Palomar in San Diego, CA.
According to the agency:
“In order to most effectively advance UAS integration efforts for the UAS community, the UAS-NAS Project will conduct an SIO effort that will culminate in a demonstration in the summer of 2020. In order for SIO to be successful, NASA is expecting to team with industry collaborators that are highly motivated to achieve UAS access through necessary technology development, testing, regulatory efforts, and other essential activities to enable safe commercial and civil operations. To help communicate these expectations and the role that NASA will play, the UAS-NAS Project is hosting an Industry Day on November 30, 2017, and requesting responses to this Request for Information (RFI). The goals of the Industry Day and RFI process include:
- Obtaining technical information on relevant industry efforts such as technology development cycles and overall plans for UAS commercialization
- Obtaining schedule related information to determine whether or not a 2020 SIO demonstration date is feasible
- Obtaining reasonable fiscal rough orders of magnitude (ROMs) from Industry to guide partnership/acquisition decisions, and ensure the SIO demonstration can be successfully executed within resources
- Communicating NASA expectations for the NASA partnership development process
- Fostering coordination across industry participants and potential partnership teams.”
