India tests drone-based delivery of human corneas for transplantation

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), in collaboration with AIIMS-Delhi and Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital, has successfully tested drone-based delivery of human corneas and other ophthalmic bio-materials. The Drone Federation of India (DFI) shared the news

Supported by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the study explored the feasibility of transporting sensitive medical materials from collection centers to tertiary hospitals for transplantation.

DFI said that during the test, a drone covered 140 km in 40 minutes, representing faster and more efficient medical logistics.
