Terra Drone Corporation has conducted a demonstration of multi-drone operations using an Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) platform, in the suburbs of Jakarta, Indonesia.
This event, on January 22 and 23 is part of the Industrial Cooperation Programme in the Global South through Technology Transfer project known as the Practicality Verification Project for UAS Traffic Management (UTM) in the Indonesian Market. It is supported by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) .
Terra Drone combined technologies from Unifly and Aloft to demonstrate how UTM can boost airspace management in Indonesia, accelerating the commercial use of drones and laying the groundwork for future nationwide implementation.
The demonstration showcased the UTM platform’s capabilities alongside drones equipped with ADS-B (3) and Remote ID (4) to manage multiple drone operations in real-time under various scenarios: These included precision drone spraying for large-scale farming such as palm plantations, exploring drone delivery solutions for inter-island and remote logistics, and enabling drone surveillance for infrastructure inspection and emergency response.
Terra Drone points to research that positions Indonesia as the second-largest potential drone market in the ASEAN region and says there are considerable growth opportunities for drone applications, with implementing a robust UTM system is a key step toward unlocking the full potential of drones in Indonesia. “This demonstration represented a significant move toward commercialising UTM services in Indonesia, positioning the country as a model for advanced drone ecosystems in Southeast Asia,” the company said in a statement.
Over 120 representatives from national aviation authorities, air navigation service providers, government officials, and drone-related companies participated in the event.
