Unifly supports ENSURE airspace management project

Terra Drone Corporation has announced its group company Unifly’s involvement in the SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking ENSURE Project. The project is a research initiative aimed at integrating U-space with Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems to ensure the safe coexistence of drones and manned aircraft.

ENSURE builds on the results of several previous SESAR  initiatives, such as CORUS-XUAM and EUREKA, while developing an interface to connect U-space with ATM systems. The project includes real-time airspace reconfiguration and dynamic airspace reconfiguration (DAR). Led by INDRA and supported by Airbus, EUROCONTROL, ENAV, Unifly and others, ENSURE is working to standardise data exchange and communication protocols between U-Space and ATM systems, enhance situational awareness for air traffic controllers and U-Space service providers, implement and validate DAR methods, and address regulatory and safety requirements for the integration of drone operations within controlled airspace.

Unifly is developing and testing U-Space services that enable real-time coordination between drones and traditional air traffic management. The company is providing technical support in the standardisation of the U-Space and ATM interface, ensuring compliance with evolving European regulations as well as support for the deployment of digital airspace management tools. Unifly will participate in upcoming validation exercises and simulations to evaluate DAR systems.

ENSURE aims to demonstrate the integration of U-Space and ATM systems during 2025, and to establish DAR systems for high-density airspace. The project will host an Open Day on May 28, 2025, at Tern Systems in Iceland. At this event, Unifly will demonstrate its UTM technology for safe and efficient airspace management across Europe, along with delivering the presentation themed on the digitalisation and automation of U-Space.
