Avionics specialist uAvionix seeks feedback on a large-scale trial endorsed by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) that uses ground-based ADS-B obstruction beacons operating on 978MHz Universal Access Transceiver (UAT). The trial relates to the use of 978MHz UAT ADS-B obstruction beacons for a glider winch launch site, hand gliding and paragliding sites and model flying sites.
This is the first-ever trial to use ADS-B to enhance the safety of glider, hang gliding, paragliding, and model flying operations according to uAvionix. The company provides additional background information about the trial here.
The trial focuses on understanding ADS-B beacons; their purpose; and receiving alerts.
