uAvionix has released Casia G 4.0, a software update that enables nighttime detection of aircraft and expands Casia G’s capabilities to support beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) drone operations. With the software enhancement, Casia G enables BVLOS operations up to 400 feet at night. The system can now detect aircraft, including small planes and helicopters, up to 16.7 kilometres away at night.
Casia G is a ground-based detect-and-avoid (DAA) system that offers both cooperative and non-cooperative aircraft detection. uAvionix says that the new software upgrade requires no hardware modifications.
Casia G’s nighttime capability has already received an approval from the Federal Aviation Administration for Fort Wayne Police Department, Indiana. Officer Matt Rowland of Fort Wayne Police Department Air Support Unit said the new release improves the department’s ability to respond to emergencies. Conduct search and rescue operations and enhance public safety.
In its March 4 release, uAvionix adds that multiple FAA approvals for BVLOS operations are pending and expected to conclude shortly.
