SESAR’s 3-year U-ELCOME project, coordinated by Eurocontrol and involving 51 European partners, commenced first demonstrations to test the deployment of U-space during Airspace Integration Week in Madrid. U-ELCOME partners INECO, Madrid local policy and ENAIRE operated drones at Cuatro Vientos Airport, near Madrid.
Project coordinator of the project Ludovic Legros said “U-ELCOME bridges the gap between innovation and real life,” adding “We can make commercial drone operations possible on a daily basis BVLOS/VLOS by 2026”.
U-ELCOME partners INECO, Madrid Local Police and ENAIRE are testing a set of services and procedures which facilitate, in a regulated and coordinated way in Europe, a safe and efficient access to the airspace for a large number of UAS, as well as their coexistence with manned aircraft in certain airspaces. ENAIRE has been designated as the sole provider of common information services (CISP) in Spain, which is necessary for the provision of U-space services.
