Singapore suspends drone model and operator after crash

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) announced on its social media channels that it is conducting a full investigation following an uncrewed aerial system (UAS) incident on 19 July 2024.

“Pending the conclusion of the investigation, CAAS has suspended all UA operations of the commercial UA operator and the use of the Hexadrone Tundra 2 drone model involved in the incident,” the announcement said.

The operator had conducted a series of flights from the one-north drone estate. Singapore’s Ministry of Transport and CAAS designated one-north as a drone estate in 2018 to facilitate the trial of innovative UAS technologies and commercial use-cases in a controlled urban environment.

Channel News Asia reported CAAS as saying the suspended operator flew outside of its approved operating area during its eighth flight of the day. The drone then crashed in the grounds of a condominium after flights were “specifically conducted over the premises of the PIXEL building for the purpose of developing a command control station for the uncrewed airspace,” Channel News Asia said.
