Speedbird Aero and Vale have successfully completed a drone logistics operation in Carajás Mine (the world’s largest iron ore mine, located in the state of Para in Northern Brazil). Speedbird says this pilot project shows the potential for further collaborations with mining company Vale.
Speedbird drones transported mineral samples between the mine and Vale’s laboratory. The operation involved the Speedbird Aero DLV-2 E35 aircraft, which transported mineral samples over 42 km in 45 minutes, significantly reducing the transport time compared to traditional road transport, which can take up to four hours due to weather and road conditions.
The multi-rotor drone, designed for extended range, flew at 500 metres above ground level to navigate the terrain. Supported and coordinated by regulatory bodies including the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) and the Department of Airspace Control (DECEA), the operation adhered to the required safety standards.
