Police dismantle narcodrone network operating between Morocco and Spain

The Spanish National Police has dismantled a network using ‘narcodrones’ between Spain and Morocco.

According to a police statement, the drones were manufactured in Ukraine and transported by road to Spain for use by criminal organisations based in Campo de Gibraltar and on the Costa del Sol.

The drones had the capacity to transport about 10 kilos of hashish in each flight and a range of more than 50 kilometres. They were flown over the waters of the Strait of Gibraltar between Morocco and Spain, and returned after dropping the drugs in Spain without landing.

Ten people have been arrested and six homes have been searched in Algeciras and Marbella as part of the operation.Three aircraft have been seized in the investigation, one of which was still under construction, as well as remote control devices, repair tools and significant amounts of cash and drugs that were allegedly brought into Spain using this method. The investigation determined that the criminal organisation attempted to send up to a thousand kilos of hashish using the drones.
