Open Skies Cornwall programme testing drone operations in Falmouth harbour

Earlier this month, the Open Skies Cornwall consortium announced it had made its first drone flight in an urban environment as part of a UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Future Flight Challenge programme to trial drone deliveries and support maritime and essential healthcare logistics.

Falmouth Harbour and drone operator Skyports Drone Services conducted a maritime flight demonstration to test how electric cargo could be operated at Falmouth Harbour in the future for ship-to-shore deliveries to provide a more sustainable, efficient logistics service.

The consortium is led by DronePrep and includes Falmouth Harbour, Royal Mail, NHS Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board, JHUBMED, Cornwall Council, Skyports Drone Services, Neuron Innovations and University of Southampton.

DronePrep has launched the Drone Delivery Register, an online tool designed to allow landowners, the public and businesses propose take off and landing locations for drones to support medical and parcel delivery services in the region.
