The US Senate bill to authorise the activities of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), recently introduced by a group of Senate commerce committee members, features a section on integrating UAS into the national airspace reports the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI). While most of the legislation is for the advancement of the nation’s space initiatives and investments, the senators encourage the agency to continue its collaboration with the FAA and the test sites to develop UAS traffic management systems to further airspace integration. NASA Authorisation Act of 2019 Section 404 Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) covers: “Research and test capabilities and concepts including communications and spectrum-related resources for integrating UAS into the national airspace system.” It includes continued support for the test ranges and flight demonstration projects.
