India’s Mumbai Police have issued a temporary ban on drone flights in the district, effective from October 31, citing terrorism concerns.
The operation of drones, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, paragliders and hot air balloons is prohibited until after November 29. The order states that “restrictions are necessary to prevent probable sabotage”.
Mumbai Police will be able to operate its own uncrewed aerial systems for surveillance and specific permission can be requested for flights.
India has seen a sudden surge in bomb threats to commercial aviation in the last two weeks, affecting multiple airlines. Hundreds of threats have been made, largely through social media.
