Malaysia conducted its first official beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) drone flight on 16 September as industry participants began testing controlled drone flights to keep pace with global UAS advancement.
The demonstration took place at Technology Park Malaysia Corporation’s Area57 technology park at Bukit Jalil. The facility is developing a dedicated DroneTech Centre of Excellence and sandbox to provide integrated infrastructure and facilities to support UAS innovators, developers and manufacturers. The aim is to assist developers with drone development lifecycle from design phase, testing phase until service and maintenance phases.
Technology Park Malaysia in inviting local, regional and global UAS players and related ecosystem partners (including funders and academia) to become involved in the project. The company estimates the drone industry will contribute RM50 billion to Malaysian GDP and create 100,000 jobs.
