Labfly granted permission to transport dangerous goods by drone in Germany

Labfly has been granted permission by the German Civil Aviation Authority to transport dangerous goods, including untested blood samples, via drones. The company said in a LinkedIn post that it now has an approved SAIL III operation for beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) flights over populated areas in all of Europe.

This latest permission allows Labfly to begin delivering medical supplies between hospitals for clients such as Zollernalb Klinikum gGmbH. It also has the potential to enable medicine delivery from the local pharmacy to the patient’s home.

The company uses the Labfly 1000 drone which it manufactures in two variants; a top-loading system that requires a landing area for deliveries and a variant that can drop packages at its destination without needing to land.
