HSWERX and Department of Homeland Security assess BVLOS and DAA capabilities for sUAS

HSWERX, a DEFENSEWERX Hub and non-profit organisation, recently hosted an uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) assessment event in partnership with the United States Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology Directorate.

The Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) Detect and Avoid (DAA) Assessment Event at the Xelevate – UAS Center of Excellence in Leesburg was held in July. The aim was to identify solutions for BVLOS capabilities and the miniaturisation of capabilities for small UAS to provide local/organic and co-located DAA technology.

On August 28, HSWERX shared a video from the event. Initially, 29 participants from 10 organisations presented their technology to the government team. Out of 21 submissions, eight capabilities were selected to present at the next phase. A team of government representatives from the Department of Homeland Security had one-on-one conversations with participants at the event and DHS is expected to make a decision regarding the fourth phase in the coming weeks.
