Horus to operate Songbird UAS BVLOS near Rome

From 7 April to 3 July 2025, Horus Technologies’ Songbird 150 uncrewed aerial system (UAS) will operate at the Nino Petrini Airfield in Gallicano nel Lazio following authorisation from the Italian Civil Aviation Authority, ENAC. Gallicano nel Lazio is about 25km east of Rome.

The authorisation enables Horus to flight test the UAS’s BVLOS sensors, and to fly payloads of up to 4.4 kg using interchangeable payload boxes integrated into the fuselage. The company said that the operations will be conducted in full compliance of European Union Aviation Safety Agency regulations.

Horus has developed the Ground Control Station (GCS) for the Songbird and other drones. The GCS allows the creation of flight paths and supports for BVLOS flights via a number of integrated and approved safety routines, including landing the system without motor support and cooperation with UTM communication technology.
