GUTMA introduced the latest members task force initiative, addressing Secure and Resilient UTM, in its latest newsletter. This initiative, led by Openskies Aerial Technology and the Technology Innovation Institute (TII), aims to bridge critical gaps in the current UTM specifications, particularly regarding privacy, remote identification authenticity, integrity and ambiguity, and communication resiliency.
The Task Force will have the following objectives:
- Objective 1: Conduct an exploration of existing security specifications within the UTM domain, followed by the creation of a comprehensive threat model to enhance secure and resilient UTM operations.
- Objective 2: Identifying the security gaps (threat modelling) in current specification and Enhancing UTM Specification Framework for Privacy, Security, and Resiliency.
- Output: A detailed Technical White Paper that will serve as a crucial reference for industry stakeholders seeking to enhance the security posture of UTM systems.
To do so, the Task Force will:
- Conduct a review of existing regulation (EU) / ConOps (US) and identify gaps from a security perspective.
- Review existing work done by companies and organisations (e.g. NASA) around security.
Key Details:
- Kick-off meeting: 29 November
- 2023 November 2023. The virtual meetings will be hosted on Google Meet. The participation link will be shared closer to the dates.
- Duration: The Task Force is set to run for two months, with a bi-weekly meeting cadence (except the second half of December). Each meeting will last approximately one hour.
