Florida Department of Corrections to use AirMatrix platform to counter drones

AirMatrix has announced that the Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) is deploying its drone identification, classification and mitigation system, Libra at its Homestead Correctional Institution, with the potential to roll out the technology at its sites throughout the state.

The United States Bureau of Prisons and Department of Justice statistics indicate there has been an annual increase of more than 50 percent in drone-facilitated deliveries of contraband to correctional facilities. In addition, drones can be used for surveillance and intel gathering, which may lead to an attack or attempted escape.

Libra is designed to provide a real-time airspace overview with rapid alerts, detecting airspace breaches through virtual boundaries. It integrates various sensors into one platform and is scalable to meet changing requirements. The software is capable of distinguishing between homemade drones, commercial drones, birds, or other objects in the sky.
