FAA grants nationwide BVLOS waiver to Kansas security firm

Titan Protection and Consulting, a security company based in Kansas City, has been granted a nationwide beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) waiver from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This allows Titan to operate surveillance drones across the United States without requiring individual, location-specific waivers.

Operating from their remote pilot operations centre in Kansas City, Titan’s certified operators can now deploy autonomous response and patrol (ARP) drones to monitor, respond to, and inspect all areas of a property on demand, including blind spots and hard-to-reach areas. The waiver includes operations at night.

Titan President and CEO Ryan Smith said the waiver enables drones “to conduct scheduled patrols and respond proactively to threats, with or without pilot intervention”.

“Gas, energy, construction, and utility industries will experience a significant benefit from our waiver.” Smith said. “It’s challenging to station guards at all their locations, like cell towers or power plants.”
