FAA approves agri-drones for BVLOS, swarming and night flights

Drone spraying network Rantizo has received US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval to swarm up to three drones over 55 pounds (25 kg), without a visual observer, and at night.

Flying beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) with multiple drones at once, Rantizo operators will be able to cover more acres. Night operations enable crops to be sprayed during suitable weather conditions while reducing exposure for pollinators and interruptions for farm workers.

Rantizo said all operators must participate in training prior to adopting these advanced practices.
