ENAIRE challenges startups to demonstrate safe UAS integration in controlled airspace

Spanish air navigation services provider, ENAIRE, in partnership with Ineco and the Polytechnic University of Madrid, has launched the second edition of the Business Challenges Competition in Air Traffic Management. Applications are now open and accepted until 31 May.

The programme is aimed at tech startups less than five years old that offer innovative solutions to the sector’s strategic challenges.

The challenges set out in this call include the safe integration of uncrewed aerial systems into controlled airspace, harnessing the data generated in air traffic management to develop new services, and improving the efficiency of air traffic management services and processes.

The competition will award winning startups EUR 40,000 and the possibility of a subsequent service contract with ENAIRE. In addition, all selected startups will benefit from a six-month acceleration programme, which includes access to ENAIRE facilities and specialised personnel to validate technology, development of a roadmap to implement a proof of concept, follow-up meetings and technical support during the process, and access to training in entrepreneurship through a virtual campus with 24 specialised modules.

At the end of the acceleration programme, the startups will demonstrate their results in Madrid in November 2026. The winning startups may be invited to a tender process with ENAIRE to develop their services.

The competition is organised through CRIDA, ENAIRE’s research, development, and innovation subsidiary. It is the second edition of ENAIRE’s Business Challenges Competition. The results from the first edition were announced last week.
