DroneUp survey: Speed is key to customer satisfaction with drone deliveries

DroneUp recently conducted a survey of customers who purchased drone delivery services from the company in Q4 2023.

The survey found that many customers expect to use drone delivery services on a weekly or even daily basis. Some 42 percent of respondents who had already used the service said they would use it as frequently as every week or day, indicating that it is a “practical and improved delivery option” over other methods. 56 percent of respondents cited speed of delivery as a motivating factor.

Customer satisfaction was high and respondents said they are confident that their packages will safely arrive when expected, they will know when they are arriving, and they will arrive in an appropriate location. Safety, messaging updates, and speed of delivery were particularly high-scoring areas.

DroneUp’s drone delivery earned over 98 percent positive ratings on aspects of the delivery package and contents, with customers saying they received what they were expecting and that those items arrived in perfect condition.

The survey revealed that drone delivery drove incremental purchases. DroneUp reports that 36 percent of survey respondents came to its e-commerce website knowing at least one item they wanted to purchase and then found additional items to add to their cart. Retailers frequently see that deliveries drive larger basket sizes from consumers, and the survey illustrates that drone delivery is no different. Meanwhile, 13 percent of customers came to the website without a specific item in mind and indicated that they wanted to try drone delivery.

In addition, 70 percent of respondents said they would order drone delivery more frequently if delivery time was less than 15 minutes, rising to 82 percent for grocery deliveries. However only 1 percent of respondents expected deliveries to arrive within this time frame.
