Belgian start-up Drone Future has devised a drone delivery pilot project to transport parcels between the site of postal company Bpost in Mechelen to the Flemish science centre Technopolis. Drone Future plans to test parcel deliveries and returns by drones early next year.
The pilot project includes a series of autonomous drone flights with a payload of up to five kilograms. Drone Future has developed a system consisting of a docking station and charging point, a battery changing system, an automatic lift and a smart mailbox. Drones would deliver a parcel to or collect from a locker and notifications would be provided via an app.
The City of Mechelen and FOD Mobility granted the necessary operational permits for the project.
