Cambridge City Airport to deploy Altitude Angel’s Approval Services platform

Cambridge City Airport has become the latest airport to deploy Altitude Angel’s Approval Services platform which allows drone operators the ability to request and pay for operations within the airport airspace digitally.

Cambridge City Airport has a Flight Restriction Zone (FRZ) which covers much of the university city. Consequently, the airport is dealing with an increasing number of requests from both commercial and recreational drone operators who wish to operate in the airspace the airport is tasked with managing.

Approval Services has been designed to enable drone operators to submit flight plans digitally – via the Drone Assist app or via dronesafetymap.com – which take place wholly or in part, within an airport’s FRZ, as well as facilitating any charges the airport has in place when a flight is approved.

The company says the time taken to review the flight requests and administration fees will both be dramatically reduced – down from 21 days to five for flight reviews, and the administration fees down from £75 or £50, to £35 for commercial users.

Altitude Angel also announced this August that Cornwall Airport Newquay Airport and Wales Air Ambulance will deploy the Approval Services platform.
