Altitude Angel announces general availability of its Approval Services API

Altitude Angel has announced that its Approval Services application programming interface (API) is now at general availability. The digital airspace and land authorisation platform can be incorporated into third party apps, enabling users to discover, request, and receive updates to airspace authorisation and land access permissions from any connected facility by submitting a flight plan. Providers can include Altitude Angel’s functionality in their platforms without the need to display the company’s logo or ‘deep link’ to their app.

“The API examines the flight plan to determine from how many parties you may be required to obtain certain permissions or authorisations from (taking into consideration whether your plan is intending to take-off or land on private land as necessary), and of those, which we can automatically get decisions from for you, whether any require manual processing by the facility, or if permissions or authorisations are required but the facility isn’t able to provide them electronically,” Richard Parker, Altitude Angel founder and CEO, explained in a LinkedIn post.

“The API even works for flights where multiple parties are required to issue decisions, for example, if you’re crossing multiple FRZs (in the UK) or you’re intending to take off from private land and transit a controlled region of airspace.”

The API also provides data on whether a facility charges for specific services, or has multiple options available for decisions – such as having one pathway for recreational flights and another for commercial operations.

Parker said that if another UTM/CIS or FIMS provider publishes a working API that lets others integrate in the same way, then Altitude Angel will also look to integrate that on behalf of its users.
