Airwayz to take part in second phase of Israeli-funded USD2 million drone initiative

Uncrewed Traffic Management (UTM) company Airwayz has secured funding to participate in the second phase of the Israel National Drone Initiative (INDI), after successfully completing the first phase last year, says a company post.

During the next two years, Airwayz will be leading INDI 2 with a grant of USD2 million awarded by the innovation authority. Airwayz will connect the U-space across various cities and trial the integration of vertiports and airtaxis. The project aims to contribute and extend capacity for drone operators and services across urban environments.

In 2021 and 2022, the INDI 1 project saw Airwayz’ UTM software support safe management of multiple drone fleets in urban areas across Israel, where drones were monitored and coordinated in real time. With more than 16,000 flights successfully completed by 10+ drone operators, INDI 1 tested manned/unmanned coexistence.
