Eurocae calls for participation in WG-105 UAS sub group: Command, Control, Communications and Security

European standards agency Eurocae has issued a call for participation in a new activity undertaken by Working Group 105 Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). A deliverable in the form of report has been approved to be developed in Subgroup 2 Command, Control, Communications and Security (C3&S) with the title ‘UAS C2 MASPS European Stakeholders Report’.

WG-105 has a task in its work programme to produce a deliverable on UAS C2 MASPS, however this task is currently on hold. At the same time, RTCA has developed DO-377 revision A ‘Minimum Aviation System Performance Standards for C2 Link Systems Supporting Operations of Unmanned Aircraft Systems in US Airspace’, which is a US-specific UAS C2 MASPS. RTCA continues to work towards revision B. There is a need to have a global harmonised UAS C2 MASPS to enable seamless MOPS development, including cellular MOPS (and, of course, 5GHz C2). Currently, even global discussion must refer to U.S.-only MASPS (DO-377). Apart from SATCOM 5GHz C2 MOPS, other WG-105 SG-2 ‘on-hold’ deliverables (such as security guidance) refer to topics, which are included in the upcoming revision of DO-377 revision B.

To address the issue, SG-2 proposes to establish a gap analysis group with a task to scan the DO-377 draft for any U.S.-specific requirements and potential contradictions with the European vision. If the report results show feasibility, a roadmap for joint deliverable DO-377 revision B will be included.

To perform this activity, expertise is required from the UAS industry, airborne, satellite and ground communications systems vendors, UAS and RPS vendors; antenna, spectrum, security and safety experts; and regulatory stakeholders.

The kickoff meeting will take place virtually in September. The Webex invitation and agenda will be circulated to EUROCAE members and those responding to this Call for Participation.

Application deadline: 1 September 2022
