The European Commission has updated the Implementing Regulation (IR) 2019/947 relating to operations in or beyond the visual line of sight (BVLOS). In the latest Commission IR 2020/639, published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 12 May 2020, the Commission amends the standard scenarios to support UAS development and some requirements in the cover regulation, Annex UAS – part A (Open category) and part B (Specific category). The legal regime for UAS operations in the specified categories are in accordance with the proportionate, operation-centric, risk- and performance-based approach set out by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
