The African Drone Forum has announced the 10 companies selected to participate in the African Drone Business Challenge which takes place in Kigali, Rwanda 5-6 February 2020. The 10 finalists were selected from a pool of 148 submissions from across the continent. The goal of the business challenge is to encourage African entrepreneurs to explore new opportunities in relation to increasing rural connectivity, new semi and fully autonomous systems for delivery, digital fabrication, and artificial intelligence for navigation and image analysis. The activity will include beyond line of sight (BVLOS) UAV operations and will support the development of drone regulations. The finalists will compete for cash prizes up to GBP40,000. According to the African Drone Forum, flying competitions due to take place in February 2020 will promote new industries and services and explore potential use-case applications for UAV technology on the African continent. The event is supported by the World Bank and the World Economic Forum, UKAID/DflD, Danida, the Republic of Korea, the World Food Programme and UNICEF.
