The Indian Army has issued a Request for Information (RFI) for counter-uncrewed aerial systems (C-UAS) technology for the BMP-2/2K infantry fighting vehicle.
The Army intends to acquire 100 units per year to address the increasing threat from drones along India’s borders with Pakistan and China.
The systems, which the Indian Army notes in the RFI would ideally be in line with the national “Made in India” manufacturing and supply initiative, or at least 50% locally produced, should be capable of real-time detecting, classification and tracking of drones. Radar, EO/IR sensors and RF detectors would be beneficial when operating at high altitude and in difficult environments.
The Army is interested in both kinetic and non-kinetic methods with minimal collateral damage.
The C-UAS systems must integrate with the BMP-2/2K vehicle’s fire control systems, including BMP-2M upgrades (night-fighting and automatic target tracking).
