The United States Department of Defense’s Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) has hosted a counter-small uncrewed aerial systems (sUAS) experiment at Fort Carson, Colorado. The Falcon Peak exercise at the end of October focused on detecting, tracking, and mitigating sUAS incursions at Defense Department installations in the United States.
The exercise ran between Oct. 19-30 and industry representatives included D-Fend Solutions, Fortem Technologies, HGH USA, ICR, Leidos, Teledyne FLIR and Trakka Systems. Existing and fielded Department of Defense tech was also tested.
Speaking at the event, Gen. Gregory Guillot, Commander of the North American Aerospace Defense Command and USNORTHCOM said sUAS present a risk to both military and critical infrastructure now and for the foreseeable future. Ahead of Falcon Peak, Guillot voiced confidence in the military’s ability to detect and track medium and large sized UAS and said that the exercise was intended to improve capabilities with smaller drones.
