The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) will establish a new unit responsible for guarding against the threat of uncrewed aerial systems (UAS).
Speaking during a budget debate on March 3, Minister of Defence Ng Eng Hen said the SAF Counter-UAS Development and Operations Group will be formed in collaboration with other government agencies.
SAF is particularly concerned with small UAS (sUAS) which can be easily procured and used by those who intend to cause harm and disruption. To counter these, the new unit will acquire a suite of sensors, jammers, and weapon systems to add to current air defence capabilities.
In addition, the Singapore Army is to establish a drone accelerator to rapidly equip the force with UAS and associated systems.
