Portugal ‘selects Thales air defence system’

The Portuguese Army has announced on its social media channels that it has selected Thales’ RapidRanger as its new air defence system. Captain Filipe Gonçalves introduced the new system in a video marking Army Day celebrations at a national exhibition.

Thales responded to a December 2023 tender to replace Portugal’s retired Chaparral air defence system.

RapidRanger is a vehicle based system with day, low light and thermal imaging cameras, an automatic target tracker and a 360-degree surveillance sensor.
