Estonian minister wants airports to be able to take down rogue drones

Estonia’s Minister of Infrastructure, Vladimir Svet believes airports should be given the right to intercept drones as the number of hybrid threats increases, according to local media reports.

Estonian Public Broadcasting said ministers are discussing if critical infrastructure operators should be granted the right and capability to take down foreign drones that intrude on their territory. Currently, only law enforcement agencies can do this.

Svet is calling for a legal framework that allows for drones to be quickly taken down in restricted areas.

Currently only the police, the Internal Security Service, and the Defense League have the authority to down drones.
