Emphasising the increasingly universal nature of the drone threat, US Central Command announced on 18 October that “In the last 24 hours, the US military defended against three drones near US and Coalition forces in Iraq”.
In the western part of Iraq, two drones were engaged, with one destroyed and the second damaged: “minor injuries” to Coalition forces resulted. In the northern part of the country, a third drone was engaged and destroyed: no casualties were recorded.
“In this moment of heightened alert, we are vigilantly monitoring the situation in Iraq and the region,” a Central Command statement reads in part. “We want to emphasize US forces will defend US and Coalition forces against any threat”.
