The Danish Minister of Defence, Troels Lund Poulsen, has today announced the establishment of the new Defence Drone Centre at HCA Airport, which is also the home of the Danish UAS Test Centre. HCA announced an expansion project in November to accommodate demand from both national and international UAS and other aviation operators.
The new centre is expected to be fully operational by 2026 with around 100 staff. Approximately DKK 725 million has been allocated to train the Danish Defence’s units as well as driving development in the drone field through experience gathering and collaboration with industry and research institutions.
“Drones will be used widely throughout the Danish Defence on everything from fixed installations such as air and naval stations to Navy ships, army units and critical infrastructure,” said Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen.
The development part of the drone centre will consist of a mix of military and civilian staff, and it will primarily be here that lessons learned from Ukraine will be processed and utilised in collaboration with armed forces, commands, industry and educational institutions. The Defence Command plans to build the training and development part of the drone centre in parallel, with an initial priority on building combat power through the training of soldiers.
