The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) will co-host the FAA UAS Symposium – Remotely Piloted Edition. This virtual event will be taking place as two episodes on July 8-9, 2020 and August 18-19, 2020.
According to the FAA: “Safely integrating UAS into the national airspace system requires new technologies. Along with regulatory advancements, progress in detect-and-avoid, remote identification, geofencing, and more are opening the door to expanded – and safer – operations. Find out in these sessions how safety concerns generate new UAS capabilities.”
“The Symposium program is still being developed, but sessions will be organized into several tracks to help attendees make the most of their time on-site, including:
- Public safety: Explore topics such as addressing community concerns, UAS security issues, and using drones to conduct safer and more effective public safety missions. Hear success stories from law enforcement organizations, learn the dos and don’ts of safe drone operations, consider the importance of consistent community engagement, and discover what’s on the regulatory horizon.
- UTM: UAS Traffic Management, or UTM, is defined as the manner in which the FAA will support UAS operations in low-altitude airspace. Join our panelists as they discuss the associated operational and technical requirements for developing a supporting architecture, establishing the rules of the road, and operating within a UTM ecosystem.
- International: Join national and international UAS experts, industry representatives, and policy makers. Learn how harmonized standards, shared best practices, and open lines of communication can serve as a catalyst to help solve global UAS technical challenges and regulatory issues while supporting public awareness and acceptance.
- IPP: The UAS Integration Pilot Program (IPP) is scheduled to conclude in October 2020. In these sessions, FAA leaders, IPP Lead Participants, and IPP Operators share their accomplishments and thoughts on lessons learned regarding the regulatory, operational, and technical concerns discovered during this innovative initiative. They will also look at what’s next and highlight how others can benefit from their experiences.
