Swiss drone platform provider INVOLI has launched a drone tracker which complies with the Remote ID standard created by ASTM International (formerly known as American Society for Testing and Materials). The KIVU tracker weighs only 22 grams, two hours of battery autonomy and comes with an embedded chargeable battery in a ruggedized unit. In a press release INVOLI said KIVU is available for sale on the INVOLI web shop (www.involi.com) and includes a license for the INVOLI.live platform. As a result of the bundle with INVOLI.live, KIVU users are able to visualise at the same time the tracked drone and surrounding air traffic. The platform also supports functions including dynamic geofencing around the drone, precise analytics tools and actionable insights.
According to drone operator senseFly, the tracker is light enough to be used without causing interference with drone communications and delivered an accurate position in INVOLI’s platform.
INVOLI says KIVU will act like a “license plate” of the drone in the sky, broadcasting its unique ID and GPS position to other users of the sky and thus allowing drones equipped with KIVU to comply to the European Laws which require to transmit this information during the whole flight.

The tracker takes its name from the Lake Kivu Challenge beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) drone competition (www.africadroneforum.org) in Rwanda, where it was successfully used for the first time in February 2020. Each drone participating in this ambitious competition was equipped with a KIVU drone tracker, which allowed the teams to follow the flights in real-time and to stay safe.
