Droniq launches “hook-on” modem which enables drones to connect directly with the UTM system

Germany’s Unmanned Air Traffic Management (UTM) service provider, Droniq, has introduced a “hook-on” device which can be easily attached to a drone. When combined with a SIM card, the modem enables the drone to dial into the mobile network and relays the exact position of the drone to the UTM system. According to a Droniq LinkedIn post, the modem determines the location of the drone and this data is then displayed on the UAS Traffic Management System (UTM).

Droniq is a joint venture between the German air navigation service provider DFS and Deutsche Telekom, the German telecommunications company. The combination brings together air traffic control and communications technology to offer an entry into commercial operation of unmanned aircraft systems, including beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS).
