The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is looking for a remotely piloted aircraft system (RPAS) policy specialist who will be responsible for leading and contributing to a number of key projects within the Future Safety and Innovation (FS&I) Policy team. Duties include providing advice and expertise to colleagues in the wider RPAS team, other areas of the CAA and externally, both nationally and internationally.
CAA notes that the successful applicant will be required to constantly develop their understanding and interpretation of RPAS regulatory frameworks and “often deal with a certain level of ambiguity”. They will need to identify and understand emerging issues, what they mean in context and what impact they may have.
Excellent communication skills are vital as is the capacity to engage with, and develop, other people’s understanding of RPAS concepts.
Applicants should be operationally experienced within either the civil or military RPAS domain; have a knowledge and understanding of any of the following areas: airspace, rules of the air, human factors in aviation and their application, SORA methodology; have a proven grasp of aviation based regulatory policy or framework; and have project management experience.
Salary is in the region of GBP 55,000 – 65,000 and the role will be based at Gatwick. Applications are invited by 11th April.
