UAS Denmark Test Center, HCA Airport, the Danish Civil Aviation and Railway Authority and EUROCONTROL have completed a safety case enabling simultaneous operations of drones and manned aircraft in the airspace surrounding the airport.
In a LinkedIn post, UAS Denmark Test Center said this represents “a significant step toward a more finely segmented airspace, allowing drones to operate closer to the runway in HCA Airport while maintaining both flexible and secure operations”.
The project aligns with the centre’s ambition for manned-unmanned airspace integration in its test areas, as a predecessor and contribution to a wider area roll-out. The upcoming concept, Drone Box, expected to be operational in 2025, will provide “access to expanded airspace for drone activities, enhanced opportunities for testing and development, and increased activity and capacity in the airport”.
The next phase of the initiative will involve documentation, the establishment of the physical site and operator training.
