Sustainable Skylines launches drone banner advertising over Miami Beach

Sustainable Skylines, a drone advertising and data analytics company, has launched its airborne banner-towing operations. The inaugural flights flown along Miami Beach over the weekend featured an Ad Council banner ad for the nonprofit’s campaign centered on raising awareness about the dangers of buzzed driving (a lower level of intoxication than drunk driving).

The company’s technology features custom-made hybrid drones, which fly 100 feet lower than traditional crewed aircraft. Sustainable Skylines received the first exemption and waiver enabling beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) drone banner towing operations. The Federal Aviation Administration waiver allows the company to fly BVLOS of the pilot using observers along the coastline.

The drones can reduce the environmental impact of aerial advertising by eliminating more than 90 percent of carbon emissions and 40 percent of noise pollution compared to airplanes.

In addition, the drones make advertising measurable. By using anonymised cellular device data, advertising agencies and brand advertisers can accurately measure audience size and demographic segments.

Following the successful launch along Miami Beach, Sustainable Skylines says it plans to roll out operations nationwide.
