Australia’s Carbonix receives nationwide waiver for BVLOS flights in the US

Australian company Carbonix has been granted a nationwide waiver for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations in uncontrolled airspace across the United States, reports Channel Life Australia.

The waiver pertains to Carbonix’s Volanti electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) drone which is designed for long-range missions.

Channel Life Australia says the waiver was secured through Carbonix’s US partner ArgenTech Solutions. Carbonix announced the formal partnership in May 2023 after several months of working with ArgenTech on an ad-hoc basis. In August 2024, Carbonix announced the Volanti eVTOL was being used by Quebec-based Exo Drone and supported by ArgenTech to detect hidden wildfire hotspots in Canada.

The US waiver enables both companies to expand their operations and serve a wider range of applications. It follows Carbonix’s March 2024 BVLOS approval from the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority for the inspection of power lines for South Australian Power Networks.
