The U-ELCOME Digital Sky Demonstrator project presented and discussed the future use of uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) for cargo and medical deliveries during the WP6 Open Day at Milano Malpensa airport on November 18.
Live demonstrations of UAS cargo and medical supply deliveries gave an example of how drones can be integrated with airport operations via a collaboration between UAS operators and existing terminal logistics at the Milan hub.
Municipal officials, regional health agency representatives, regulatory bodies, and technology providers gathered to share insights on the operational, regulatory, and technological advancements shaping the future of autonomous deliveries.
The discussions also underlined the eco-friendly nature of drone delivery while enhancing delivery speed and accessibility.
In a statement, the U-ELCOME team said the event “marked a crucial step in further advancing and integrating drone technologies into critical operations, such as medical supply chains”.
