Amazon customers in the West Valley Phoenix Metro Area are now receiving Prime Air drone deliveries from the company’s Tolleson, Arizona, Same-Day delivery site. Customers can purchase an eligible item weighing 5 pounds (approximately 2 kg) or less for delivery in under an hour.
Prime Air’s new drone, the MK30, has received FAA approval to begin operations to customers. This includes the ability to fly beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) using an on-board detect and avoid system. The MK30 went through an aerospace-grade certification process in collaboration with the FAA. It flies twice as far as Prime Air’s previous drones, is quieter and is designed to be able to fly in rainy weather.
The MK30 has also started making deliveries in College Station, Texas.
