Fincantieri Group signs MoU with Barzan Holdings for C-UAS radar system in Qatar

Fincantieri Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Barzan Holdings, a company wholly owned by the Qatari Ministry of Defence. This partnership focuses on the joint development of the Omega360 radar programme, which will serve as the central sensor for Qatar’s national counter-drone system.

This agreement marks the collaboration between the two companies in defining a potential joint venture aimed at localising production in Qatar and supplying 40 Omega360 radar units. The first operational systems are expected to be produced by the end of 2026.

Omega360 is a short-range surveillance system designed to cover 360 degrees simultaneously. It is particularly suitable for countering micro and nano drones, due to its high Doppler spectrum resolution and artificial intelligence algorithms. These features enable the system to classify and identify drone targets, including swarms, by radiofrequency at long distance.

In addition to the radar production, the agreement includes the establishment of a Center of Excellence in Qatar dedicated to the assembly and maintenance of these systems.
