FAA publishes updated design guidance for vertiports, organises industry briefing day

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has published its Draft Engineering Brief (EB) 105A, Vertiport Design and will hold a briefing day for industry on September 30, 2024, 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., EDT when it will provide an overview of the EB update, discuss some critical aspects of the draft currently under consideration, and provide an opportunity for attendees to ask questions about it.

The EB provides interim guidance for the design of vertiports for aircraft 11 with vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) capabilities. The interim guidance will be subject to update as data, analysis, and VTOL aircraft and operations develop in the future. This is a revision to the original Engineering Brief 105 issued on September 21, 2022. Principal changes include adjustments to the sizing of the fundamental vertiport geometry, grouping by powered versus non-powered-lift, the addition of a section on parking, and the creation of a downwash and outwash protection area.
