The Thai government, partly funded by a FASEP grant from the French government, is defining a new policy for the commercial use of UAVs, while maintaining a high level of safety in low-altitude airspace. A kick-off meeting relating to the Collaborative development of Automated Unmanned aircraft systems traffic Management (UTM) took place at the end of February 2024, presided over by Jean Sol Macher, Head of the economic section of Bangkok together with Bangkok’s King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) – part of the International Academy of Aviation Industry (AAI) – and uncrewed traffic management (UTM) provider Innov’ATM.
Based on the current Innov’ATM UTM solution and the new KMITL UTM concept, four automated UTM applications will be provided:
- Geo-awareness,
- Flight Authorization,
- Network Identification
- Traffic information.
The UTM applications are part of “The Development of Technology for Unmanned Aircraft in Compliance with Safety and Security Measures of the State” which was initiated by KMITL, based in and being conducted in Thailand.
In addition to Innov/ATM, International Academy of Aviation Industry (AAI) and KMITL, participants include the French Embassy inThailand, French Treasury, IAAI, KMITL and PMU-C-Thailand.
