Electro Optic Systems Holdings’ Defence Systems business has won a contract from Germany’s Diehl Defence to supply Slinger counter-drone systems in a deal valued at AUSD 15 million (approx. USD9.9 million), the company announced on 29 January.
Diehl will integrate the systems onto a lightweight 4×4 platform to enhance Bundeswehr capabilities for critical infrastructure protection against hostile drones.
Dr Andreas Schwer, Chief Executive Officer for EOS, said, “Born from EOS innovation, with proprietary tracking technology, and shaped by real-world combat experiences, Slinger continues to evolve, drawing on ongoing lessons from the field,” said EOS CEO, Dr Andreas Schwer.
The Slinger counter-drone system was developed to track and engage moving drones at a range of over 800 metres, depending on the weapon configuration used. It can incorporate unique munitions, making it suitable for urban environments, and includes a radar system. Designed and developed in Australia specifically for export markets, with a focus on addressing contemporary and emerging threats based on lessons learned in recent conflicts, the proprietary stabilisation and pointing technology incorporated into the Slinger system has been developed over a thirty-year period to provide a high degree of accuracy – a critical characteristic for effective counter-drone applications.
